It is probably that Llywelyn the Great built this castle for its strategic position overlooking the Lledyr Valley, but it fell into disuse when defences were concentrated along the coast. Restored by Lord Willoughby de Eresby in Victorian times, you can now walk up to the castle to enjoy its panoramic views.
